What Is Shove Ha’penny?
Shove Ha’penny is a tabletop coin game played mainly in the United Kingdom. Players slide coins across a smooth board, trying to land them completely between horizontal lines. The game rewards careful control of force and lets players use later coins to move earlier ones. Learn more in Wikipedia’s Shove Ha’penny overview.
Infunx adapts Shove Ha’penny into a solo challenge with five coins. Choose your launch position and control your charging time to land coins in three designated target beds.
How to Play Shove Ha’penny
- Choose your targets. Before starting, select a target set. The default uses beds 2, 5, and 8. You can also choose beds 1, 4, and 7, or beds 3, 6, and 9.
- Pick a position. Press and hold a spot on the launch area at the bottom of the board. Your position locks when charging begins.
- Release to shove. Holding longer increases power, reaching its maximum after about 3.6 seconds. Release to slide the coin forward. Full power can send it past your target.
- Watch the landing. Wait for every coin to stop before launching the next one. Avoid existing coins or try knocking them into better positions.
- Check your score. After all five coins have been played and settled, their final positions determine your result.
On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or A and D to adjust your position, then hold and release Space to shove. Gold marks on the power meter show target ranges for a clear board. Collisions can change where a coin lands.
How Does Scoring Work in Shove Ha’penny?
Each coin that rests completely inside a gold target bed without touching a line earns 1 point. Coins touching a line, landing in an ordinary bed, stopping short, or leaving the board earn nothing.
Finish with at least one scoring coin in each of the three target beds to complete the challenge. The maximum score is 5 points. A perfect hand requires all five coins to score while covering all three targets.
Later coins can knock earlier coins out of scoring positions, so your running score can change before the hand ends.
How Is Infunx Shove Ha’penny Different From the Physical Game?
Traditional Shove Ha’penny usually involves two players or teams taking turns, with the goal of scoring three points in each of nine beds. Additional points in a completed bed may go to the opponent. Infunx uses a short solo format with three scoring beds and no opponent scoring.
Charging replaces pushing a coin by hand. Another difference concerns short shots: traditional rules allow a coin that fails to reach the first line to be played again. In this version, every launched coin uses one of your five attempts, even if it stops short.
The adaptation retains distance control, strict line rules, and coin collisions while using a shorter challenge format.
